If it takes a lot of courage to admit you don’t know all the answers, just imagine how hard it is to admit you don’t even know the right question. But if you ask the wrong question, you are almost guaranteed to get the wrong answer. The complexity of life is much a task to understand.

Think about a problem you’d really like to see solved–like the youth unrest and proclivity to fight at slightest provocation in our dear land or the difficulty in meeting up with the skyrocketing bills. Now ask yourself how you came to define the problem as you see it. In all likelihood, your view on how to solve them will be heavily influenced by the popular opinions or what you hear every day from people around you.

Most people don’t have the time or inclination to think very hard about big problems like this. We tend to pay attention to what other people say and, if their views resonate with us, we slide our perception atop theirs. And very funny most of the times, we focus on the part of a problem that bothers us.

Our style of questioning goes a long way to assist in getting to the root of the problem we wish to solve. Let’s look at this question “What’s wrong with our youths?” when in reality, the question might be better phrased as “Why do our youths suddenly develop the penchant for violence? When you ask the question differently, you look for answers in different places.

Let’s learn today to ask proper questions.
