In certain ways, kids are simply sharper than adults. People perceptually get dumber as they grow older. Adults are indeed better than kids at paying attention or focusing on one task at a time. This is great for getting stuff done, but it also makes them susceptible to misdirection. Kids’ attention, meanwhile, is more diffuse, which makes them harder to be fooled.

Why are kids so much harder to deceive? Kids don’t buy into dogma. They are relatively free of assumptions and expectations about how things work. Kids are genuinely curious, but interestingly when an adult is pretending, kids hardly notice they are pretending. Kids don’t overthink; adults, meanwhile, seek out non-obvious explanations and in most cases a cockamamie explanation.

A community in which her kids or youthful population are rather dumb portends a future crisis. A community where her kids or young generation are hypocritically gullible sits on the brink of a cliff.

My people, what is actually happening to the younger generation? Could it be laziness or drugs or poverty or spiritually-induced decline?

Lord, we need you more than ever.
