Proverbs 16:24 “Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”
Christ will be justified to be angry at the betrayal of friendship He shared with the disciples, after the experience He had with His disciples during His trial and cruxcification. Peter had denied Him, other disciples went into hiding, even on the resurrection morning there were pockets of doubts among them despite His express instructions about His death and resurrection on the third day. But in all these, when He saw the women at the tomb, we hear the kind of words He used as recorded in Matthew 28:8-10 “So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” What a sweet and encouraging words, what a gracious and healing words- “GO AND TELL MY BROTHERS.”
Leaders like Christ should know the importance of encouraging words, gracious words bring healing to the weak bones. The positive effects of well-chosen and gracious words are not limited to our physical health, we prosper because they buoy us for the challenges we are facing now and may encounter in the future.
Christ during His earthly life brought encouragement to those who faced trials, encouraging them to bear up even under the most unbearable circumstances. He models for leaders that are His followers; we should offer the healing and hope found in the gracious words to those He has placed in our lives. Just as His words are healing and hope, we should do likewise as we interact with the people we are leading.
As leaders like Christ, do we build up with our words or tear down? Can we beat our chest and said we have spoken gracious words into people’s life lately? Do we realise the vital role sharing of words of encouragement with others played? Do our words with people under us provide healing and hope devoid of condemnation? Do we use our words to only remind where they are wrong or to encourage them even when they failed? Do we realise that we are products of the gracious words of Christ? Do we realise that we are leaders delegated by Christ and should follow His laid down pattern in our word and actions?
May God help us to be gracious with our words like Christ, that our hearers will be empowered with the needed hope and Christ’s love.

“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13
The true test of any good Christian leader is his dependency quotient. How much does he rely on God or on self? Leaders like Christ depends on God for everything and at all times.
Whenever we remove our eyes on God and shift our dependency on any other person or any other thing, we will not only be courting disaster, but it is a sure way to calamity. Many leaders made exploit in their generation because they depended on God and many also depended on the arm of flesh and failed woefully.
Psalm 118:8 affirms that; “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” We should occasionally make effort to answer these questions honestly as leaders like Christ. When does a leader’s confidence become arrogance? How self-assured should I be as a leader? What does humility look like in a Christian leader’s life?
We must as leaders like Christ balance our identity and self-esteem. We must see our weakness and humanity and juxtapose it with our position and privileges. We should balance between God’s role and the leader’s role and find an equilibrium by giving appropriate glory to God. As a leader like Christ, we should periodically take stock and test if our dependency ratio is high or low.

LEADERS LIKE CHRIST

“I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name — the name you gave me — so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.” John 17:11-12
The above passage for consideration is a word of a model leader that finished strong. This passage is like a valedictory speech and review of the scorecard. It was mission accomplished- He was given a task of redeeming mankind. He could categorically tell the father that none was lost, while on earth He protected them and finished strong and is about coming back to take the redeemed to Himself as promised. Leaders like Christ finish strong and well.
Gleaning through the Bible, you will encounter leaders that finished strong and those that finished poorly. Christ remained the perfect example of a leader that finished strong and well and should be our object of admiration and emulation.
Many leaders failed to finish strong because they dilute the original vision that drove them or their success got into their head or their weakness go unaddressed. Leaders lost their anointing and rejected by God because they are too proud or careless to follow the manual laid down by Christ, a simply life of trust and obedience. We have a solemn duty to keep to the rules of engagement.
While a good start helps, a good finish is your responsibility as you keep yourself under the tutelage of Christ the perfect model. Let this be our prayers as leaders like Christ- to finish strong and well like Him.
