TODAY SUNDAY AUGUST 21, 2022IS IHYIGILE

THE IGEDE PEOPLE, THE DANCE AND THE MUSIC IN BRIEF.

Igede people have a distinctive dance and music style peculiar in North Central Nigeria. The ballet-like form of dance that uses the whole part of the body is hard to do and tasks too. The music genre determines the dance type; for example, the dance for Ogirinye is different from that of Ayita or Akatanka. The various music group has a peculiar masquerade that makes them captivating. A Dance group may be made up of only males, females, or both.

With the interconnectivity and interaction with other cultural groups from different ethnic groups, some borrowed styles are gradually permeating our dance style. But interestingly, the traditional style is only enhanced and not thrown away. The fast kind of music is followed by an equally fast and high-energy dance, skilled body movement that follows the rhythm of the music. The style, the speed and the skill will leave one tickled and exhilarated.

Apart from the dance group mentioned above, others include; Abakpa, Ebwoo, Ọnyangtụ, Obemu, Ịjọọ, Imeri, Ogbete, Adịya, Ọgịrịchachọ, Ịyayarigibe, Ọkpatụma, Ụyaa, etc.

As the countdown to the 2022 Igede Agba is getting lower (September 5 2022), we hope to enjoy the varieties in our various communities across the length and breadth of the land.
