Armstrong (1995) define Igede as land, people and their language, hence it could be mentioned as Igede land, Igede people and Igede language. Igede language is known as “Igede” or “Myekee” meaning “I speak” (A Frampton, 1935:58).
Igede consist of the following clans:

2. Anchim – Ocheche
3. Oye – Ugbodu Adikobia
4. Ukpa – Amono
5. Oboru – Ogbagba Okpalegu
6. Owo – Ochimadu
7. Ibila – Okpago la Aganyi/Ogbe-ikwum
8. Uwokwu – Olelega
9. Ainu – Adenu
10. Ito – Ada Oto
11. Anyaboga – Ogilewu
12. Itakpa – Ada Otakpa
13. Igabu – Ada Ogabu/Okpalotu
14. Idele – Anya Odum Oyogo
15. Oju – Okpogo
