A DECISION MUST BE MADE

SUNDAY NIGHT WITH EKURWE

20th November 2022

Daniel 1:8

“But Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods.” (NLT)

It is no doubt that life is replete with situations where we must have to make decisions. Even when you seems not to take any action, it is still decision. Life is a ground where neutrality is not possible and not reasonable. When people walk passively through life and are not faced with decisions about their faith, one will wonder if they are upholding godly values in this evil world or have compromised. In this world, crossroad is a reality and at every crossroad a decision must be made.

In the spiritual experience of every child of God, there is a crossroad. At the cross road, a decision must be made; which will alter the course of the person’s life positively or negatively. Decisions you make will affect your direction and speed as far as eternal project is concern. Decisions made by people in Bible hstory were determinants of how useful they were in the project of God in their generation.

The crossroad in the life of Daniel came when he was a captive in Babylon. While the circumstances may appear to have little significance to us that are not careful about spiritual life, it meant everything to Daniel when he faced it. If he drank the wine and ate the food of the king, it meant that he had left his own religion behind him–it meant apostasy and personal defilement.

Daniel saw the issue clearly and made his decision on the basis of what he knew God required. That the decision was wise and best is demonstrated by his life and usefulness in the service of God later. He never counted the cost; he only did what was right.

Jesus, the author of our faith was presented with a cross road in Luke 4:1-13, when He was tempted by Satan. He used the written word of God as a weapon and means of doing what was right. We cannot be too big for a crossroad; at any crossroad, a decision must be made. The great question is– Do you know what God required? It is that knowledge that will help you overcome and make godly decisions that have eternal value.

May God help us to take godly and necessary decision when it is most needed and at the cross road. May our decision be based on what God wants even if it will cost us our life. May we count the will of God greater than anything in this world. May we have the boldness to decide for God and for His glory. Amen.
