SUNDAY NIGHT WITH EKURWE
13th November 2022
James 1:27
“The Christian who is pure and without fault, from God the Father's point of view, is the one who takes care of orphans and widows, and who remains true to the Lord-not soiled and dirtied by his contacts with the world.” (TLB)
Humans are wired to worship and anytime this is not done, there seems to be a vacuum. Humanity therefore had employed several means to fill this gap and at the process involved in several beliefs and convictions. But religion in essence is partitioned majorly in two: religion from the human point of view and religion from God’s point of view. In our text; the scriptures established what true religion from God’s perspective is and it premised on love for the needy as an unavoidable indicator.
The Bible says, love can be seen and touched- it is tangible. It may be as big as the Good Samaritan’s care for an injured man as recorded in Luke 10:30-37 or as small as a cup of cold water given in Jesus’ name as mentioned in Matthew 10:42. Real love takes action. We are commanded not to love in words or in tongues but in action and in truth.
There is a joy and happiness most of us have not been part of and if we do not change the way we act now, it may not be part of our experience. The joy of being there for a needy person, the happiness of standing for the vulnerable, the blessings of being a solution to another person’s problem. For some, they might have been on both ends of this experience—the receiving and the giving. If you have not, believe the explanation of people that have been on the two sides of the experience, there is more joy in giving and even going without at times if need be, than receiving and possessing.
"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:34-40 NIV)
Give as Christ gave to you in your needs. Love as Christ loved you. Be to the helpless a helper indeed. Love should be the reason and a compelling force, because you cannot love without giving. This is a sign and testimony of a true religion. Amen.
Keep a date with us next Sunday.
