TITLE: THE DECEPTIVE MIRAGE
The illusion of authenticity should be the right word to describe them. Why are people hilarious all the time?
In the intricate landscape of social organisations and movements, unity and collective effort for the greater good are fundamental. However, a troubling phenomenon has emerged where groups, under the guise of authenticity, duplicate themselves with the intent to deceive people into believing they are genuine contributors to the common welfare. Just like Edna Ogoli in her music-‘one Kilometre One Language’- ours could be titled, ‘One pre-election Season, twenty Youth Organisations.’
People who duplicate organisations often present a façade of authenticity to lure individuals seeking a sense of belonging or relevance. This duplicity can take various forms, from mimicry of legitimate organisations to the creation of counterfeit movements with different names and skewed objectives. The intent is to exploit the trust people place in genuine groups or garner followership for cheap popularity, often tinted with selfishness colouration.
The beautifully coined nomenclature of these new groups often does not deter the non-gullible critical thinkers from knowing that they are subverting the principles of cooperation and collaboration that underpin collective progress. Observation over time has revealed that 50% of people who creates these new clubs or association with selfish and kangaroo zeal usually contests for the elective post after a year or two.
When people invest time, energy, and resources in what they believe to be a genuine cause, only to discover that it is a deceitful imitation, the repercussions can be profound. Trust is eroded, unity is fractured, resources are misdirected, and social fabric is eroded, hindering the potential for future authentic collaboration. As deception becomes a recurring theme, individuals may become disillusioned and disengaged, fostering a sense of cynicism that can permeate the broader community. The erosion of social cohesion threatens the collective capacity to address shared challenges and work towards a common vision for a better society in the future.
What will we do as a people since they will not stop? They will not stop telling us that it is for the unity of the whole society. Our only option is to develop a critical mindset at an individual level, questioning the legitimacy of groups and movements before investing our time or resources. We can strengthen the bonds that hold our society together and ensure that collective efforts for the greater good are not compromised by those seeking to exploit the genuine intentions of patriotic individuals.
This letter is to let you know that we know you are selfish and unpatriotic.
Just dey play and continue to form clubs and Associations, if that is what you need to increase your electoral value or if you can replace your membership of several associations with your bad character.
