In a build-up to party primary elections for various political offices, many qualified Igede indigenes came out with mouth-watering articles on social media platforms. Myekeemedia did an unedited collection of some articles found on Facebook in May 2022.
“OJU/OBI 2023: IMPROVED GEN EDE MEDIA SPURS CONVERSATION ON IGEDE REAL ISSUES”, by James Ibechi.
FACTS CHECK.
By Awo Whiskeys
When this article first appeared, I didn’t want to comment directly on it for obvious reasons. My friend, Ibechi wrote it and I felt he didn’t mean bad even though some of his postulations were incorrect. However, I am now compared to make some corrections because it seems our media director is reposting it as if nothing was wrong with it.
In trying to put the records straight, the following facts check will help us understand the situation of things.
1. “By now or as it looks, the great media work being done on the ex-soldier’s persona may have successfully projected him to the consciousness of the elite and the Igede voting publics as one with needed war chest to give Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu a run for his money in the 2023 battle for the soul of Oju/ Obi federal constituency.”
This statement is a false one because Gen Ede Ode has repeatedly told whoever cares to listen that he does not have money but was answering the call of Igede people to represent them based on his capabilities. He is not even interested in money politics. He is not happy with the way politics in Igede is monetized instead of general development of the land.
2. “Before now, Gen. Ede, as easily called, was garbed by his media handlers in such a way that suggested the only agenda behind the ex-soldier’s foray into the politics of the 2023 House of Reps was Okwu’s ouster and nothing else. That was the mantra and it sounded as though Okwu was the bull in the Chinese shop that must first be removed or beheaded before development could pop on the front burner of matters-relevant.”
This is also another false statement from the writer because Gen Ede Ode has repeatedly told whoever cares to listen that his coming into politics was not to fight whoever has been there but a call for public service which he could not ignore because of his love for his people. For this reason, his closest aids before his campaign organization was set up were mindful of his position and had been working in that line without mentioning Gen Ede Ode’s name in their publications.
3. “The media men of the aspirant now must, however, be commended for the excellent marketing of their aspirant in line with world best practice that gives an impression that Okwu now has a top challenger in the ex-soldier, even as false as the impression may seem”,
The fact that Okwu has now has a too Challenger is not a false impression. Gen Ede Ode is not just a top challenger but he is a man overwhelmingly supported by Igede people across Oju and Obi Local Government Areas. He has come to win and give Igede people a good representations.
4. “If David Ogewu could construct multimillionnaira bridge on own volition for the interest of masses, he has passed an acid test for altruism. Same goes for Oloko Ogbaji who constructed a culvert at the heart of Oju main town when none of these aspirants enjoyed public mandate. These two must be singled out for consideration”.
This writer’s mentioning of these guys is suspicious. I do not know why he also singled out the two aspirants for commendation when other aspirants like Gen Ede Ode has done more than that without a single publicity. He does not believe in self glory and pride. He was working and assisting people, groups, individuals and organisations without saying anything before now.
5. “Ode Emmanuel and the ex-soldier must come trailing Ogewu and Oloko in preference order because they have made Igede their centerpiece of development by attracting development to Igede education and tourism sectors, all through personal efforts.”
Gen Ede Ode does not have to trail anyone because he started contributing to the development of Igede land unannounced before these people came on board. We should appreciate his secret contributions even when he was still in the service including donation to Assemblies of God Church and building of Omiy’igede Makurdi. There were other salient contributions which he told me not publicize.
6. “The incumbent Sam Okwu might be seen as the best performing rep in Igede Representative history and has comparative advantage over other aspirants because of his being an old hand who can be elevated to a ranking officer status if voted to return to House”.
This is another lie. Okwu is not the best performing representative. After all, he stays more than the two other people combined. What then is your parameters for the conclusion? It is a fake conclusion that has no back up evidence.
