IGEDE NATION RIDING ON A NEW NORMAL.

Updated: Jul 1, 2022

Have you ever fiddled with an electric fitment and got a shock up your arm? Of course if you have; you know the kind of jolt it gives you: something you can’t control; a jolt that hurts, but doesn’t bruise; something that hits your muscles and leaves you a little breathless. This is the best description of my feelings when a section of Igede people are routing for Senator Abba Moro and his bid to return to Senate.

Firstly, let me place on record that the people advocating for Senator Moro have not contravened any known law of the land, they have the freedom and right to campaign for continuity especially when Senator Moro has distinguished himself and perform credibly in the short time of stay at the Red chamber of the National Assembly. The kind of media approval he has gotten from media handlers of Igede extraction is unprecedented, even when he has not done much for the Igede people. On a personal note, if not for the general interest of Igede people, I am Moro-die-hard, I love Moro to my bones and marrow, if it is legal to vote more than one time -I will vote for Senator Abba Moro seven times.

Igede interest has been unlike the garden variety from the start, but it has shaped much better over the past one year, especially with the advent of BENUE REBIRTH MOVEMENT. The BRM is requesting that governorship seat be given to Zone C, and we in Igede with two Local Governments will have only one agendum to place at the table of our Idoma brothers with seven Local Governments; that is, for them to give us the seat of senate. But unfortunately, we are riding on a new, selfish, counterproductive and strange “normal’- advocating for Moro’s continuity. Then the one-million-naira question- what do we actually want as a people?

We will recall that Dr Akwuma Egboja gave the seat a shot few times during Senator David Mark’s time and how much of support did he enjoyed from Igede elites and politicians. Now, there is a move for BOJACO to give it a shot and here we are, pledging our support for Moro and promising him double of votes he got in 2019. The reality is that, our two Local Governments are not determinant of who occupies the seat, but who are we helping if we go the other way, when we have our own people showing interest. If we are comfortable with that, then what is our reason for complaining of marginalisation? Who is actually undoing us? What will be the strength of our agitation if we are divided? Then it will be safe to say; Igede people are divided minority riding on a self-destructive normal.

My respect has grown tall for Mr OTOR JACKSON OGBU in recent time over this issue- more grease to your elbow Sir. We live in a society, where things done by some people are termed normal and cannot be criticised because they are sacred and untouchable. But what will we achieve as a people; if reason cannot be allowed to direct us in all matters of our collective interest and existence. Our self-centredness and inconsistency in confronting our common interest will one day completely wreak havoc on this great and cherished Igede nation.

Let us be truthful with ourselves for once, if continuity was good for Senator David Mark because of Apa State and Dr Egboja was denied Igede votes to allow him sailed through primaries, and now, continuity is good for Abba Moro for consolidation on the gains of democracy, then it will be wickedness, hatred, home grown envy, primitive jealousy, and satanic consideration, if we will turn full circle and say that continuity is not good for RT HON SAMSON OKWU. What has MORO done for Igede nation that SAMSON has not done in uncountable measures. If we are happy with the non-rotational stance of the senatorial seat, then why are we angry if HOR stays in one place for continuity and consolidation on the gains. Just as zone C is better off with Senator Abba Moro’s continuity, because as it stands, BOJACO is ruled out because of the many votes MORO will get from Igede, then Igede will be better off if we don’t introduce FRESHER and a JJC as House of Representative Member in 2023. What is good for the goose is good for the gander! If continuity is good for Senator Moro, it is also good for Hon. Samson Okwu. We move!
