KWURWE IGEDE WATCH
Fellow Igede people, you have two options: either read this with a pure mind as an Igede person or in a political sense. You also have the right to brand it as a paid write-up.
Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu, a member representing the Oju/Obi Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, is a man of peace. He is a peace-loving politician to the core. Even his die-hard critics will agree to that fact if they are honest and do not desire to throw the truth into the trash bin. A true personality with a high tolerance level who had stomached needless and unfounded stories without a single threat like some politicians will do.
We have heard about two prominent political leaders and their ideologies. His Excellency Nnamdi Azikiwe, the former president of Nigeria (1963-1966) and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a nationalist and a statesman. You still remember ZIKISM and AWOISM. They exemplify virtues and principles of good governance, selflessness, public-spiritedness and transformational leadership. They were political institutions and innovators; their people-centred ideals and policies endeared them to their people. Their public welfare, ethical tolerance and national pride were the costly treasures they possessed. The doggedness and determination to make the impossible possible for the nation, restoration of the dignity of their people, and resistance to imposition and exploitation were their trademark.
In Igede nation and her political sphere, Rt Hon Samson Okwu is qualified to be inducted into the hall of fame and a political ideology named after him- ‘OKWUISM’. Let us look at some of the qualities possessed by Hon. Samson Okwu:
1. In his more than a decade at the green chamber of the National Assembly, he has never been accused of inciting communal or group crises in Igede nation and beyond.
2. He is humble, respectful to all regardless of status and not a thug-carrying politician.
3. In all his political ventures and campaigns, he never sees his opponent as an enemy nor rain abusive words on a fellow contestant and never takes politics as a do or die affair. He never petitioned anybody.
4. He always humbly appeals to the people to vote for him and reveal things Igede nation stands to gain and never uses his influence to threaten or hold the people to ransom. He has a network of influence but has never paraded with them before, making it a point for his acceptance.
5. He believes and demonstrates it severally: leadership positions are given to men by God.
6. He is a typical Igede man with a correct understanding of the people’s values. He has been helping uncountable people but wants the people he helped to retain their self-respect and pride. It is not in his ideology to tell the world about his hand-out to people. He had respect for the people that God enabled him to assist and is not delighted in publishing their names and pictures as if they are worthless beggars.
7. He believes in Igede people and has unparalleled respect for their will. You will never hear him talk about his great connections and never use people he knows to intimidate Igede people like other politicians.
8. No occupant of that office, dead or alive, outperformed him, which is a known and acceptable fact across the political party divide.
9. He is approachable, teachable and understanding.
10. He is generous, evident in his development projects that cut across most clans in Igede land.
OKWUISM: is a political ideology worthy of emulation if Igede land wants holistic development. The personality of distinguished Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu is very rare to get. We need a synergy with him for a better Igede.
