After the war between Ukpute and Bonta in Benue State?
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN IN IGEDE NATION
Yes, whoever is doubting this fact that we have lived with for several years– our ancestors are ‘living dead’, very much alive and active should gather himself and come for a refutation assembly. Our ancestors can advise even the lazy thinker in a dream or awaken the consciousness of the hardened to the community’s needs.
After the war between Ukpute and Bonta, can we beat our chest and say that finally we have peace and the incident will never reoccur? Can we go to sleep now and thank God that the two communities are appropriately resettled and have found their footings? Can we say that the two communities do not need intervention either from government or non-governmental organizations? Can we cross our legs and proudly say that healing of wounds has taken place, so there is no need for peace-building initiatives?
If we can–glory be to God, but if the answer is ‘NO’, then why is everybody at ease and quiet as if we have arrived at our desired destination? Do we need our ancestors to do that for us–then let us tell them.
More importantly and painfully–the Benue State government that saw the need for boundary adjustment is yet to finish the adjustment. The Government of His Excellency Samuel Ortom that initiated that move has less than ten months to go. Who will remind him? Who? Who? Who?
We may be sitting on a time bomb if the boundary issue is not resolved. May God forbid!!!
