In a build-up to party primary elections for various political offices, many qualified Igede indigenes came out with mouth-watering articles on social media platforms. Myekeemedia did an unedited collection of some articles found on Facebook in May 2022.
It has become imperative to clarify on the above subject matter that has generated considerable brouhaha on social media.
It is axiomatic that Igede Stakeholders of PDP stock paid His Excellency, Governor Samuel Ortom, a visit, to, inter alia, draw the attention of the Governor to the deplorable roads in Igedeland, the paucity of Igede indigenes in the state Civil Service, absence of rural roads and electricity.
The requests of the Igede Stakeholders led by Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu were adroitly written in a document that was presented to the Governor but has no clause like the Igede people distancing themselves from Benue Rebirth Movement as erroneously reported in the media.
The fact of the matter was that after the speech presentation, one person each from Oju and Obi LGAs were given opportunity to talk. In their presentations, none of them talked about BRM except when Hon. Godwin Owulo was given opportunity to speak based on his capacity as the Zonal Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), that was when he said Igede nation distances itself from the BRM.
Incidentally, his position is personal and does not reflect the feelings of the generality of people present neither was it part of the reasons for the visit to the Governor. Given the above, therefore, Igede in 2023 Movement wishes to reiterate that Igede people are a part and parcel of the agitations for power rotation being championed by Benue Rebirth Movement and distances itself from the version of the news being bandied on social media.
Igede in 2023 Movement realizes the importance of collaboration, mutual understanding and cooperative-rational actions towards goal attainment and wouldn’t do anything to undermine or jeopardize the gains already recorded towards breaking the age long jinx of producing a Benue Governor of zone C extraction.
