SENATE 2023: OJU, OBI DELEGATES ASSURE AJENE ON BLOC VOTES, VOW HE’S THEIR RALLYING POINT
By Smith Akoko | May 20, 2022
In a build-up to party primary elections for various political offices, many qualified Igede indigenes came out with mouth-watering articles on social media platforms. Myekeemedia did an unedited collection of some articles found on Facebook in May 2022.
Ahead of the All Progressives Congress’s primary election for Benue South Senatorial District scheduled for May 25th, 2022, statutory delegates from Oju and Obi Local Government Areas have unanimously endorsed one of the leading aspirants, Barr (Prince) Obande Jacob Ajene.
According to the crowd of voters who were gathered at Sophy Guest Inn, Oju, and based their decision on equity and the need for rotation of power to the Old Oju power block, the Igede people have never been trusted with the senatorial seat since the inception of representative government in Zone C.
Assuring Barr Ajene on bloc votes during the party’s primary election, elders of the party, local government chairmen, youth and women leaders who spoke on behalf of the delegates said the Igede-born lawyer and business tycoon is their rallying point as they had long waited for a trailblazer of his standing to champion the course of the Igede people towards producing a Benue South Senator of Igede extraction.
In addition to the struggle for equity which is a major preoccupation of the teeming delegates, they believed Ajene has the capacity and willpower to change the fortune of Benue South in general and address the infrastructural deficit in Igedeland in particular, citing the deplorable state of Otukpo-Oju federal road as a major concern.
Notable among the mammoth crowd of APC members and observers were the State Legal Adviser, Comrade Ajoma Success Ode; Benue State University scholar, Dr Samuel Ominyi; Oju Local Government Party Chairman, Hon. Onah Mike; Obi Local Government Party Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Eluwa; former Chairman of Oju LGC, Hon. Dave Ode; Mrs Julie Alobo, Oju Woman Leader, Mrs Rose Abi; Obi Woman Leader, Mrs Regina Obi and youth leaders from the two local government areas, all of who approved of Ajene’s endorsement.
