Why must we dance to the imaginary beat of our own drums, while the real actors are far away. Let us hope that we have not given bad food of jealousy and hatred to our stomach and it is drumming for us to dance.
I feel obligated to analyze the recent happenings at the political space of Oju/Obi Federal Constituency and particularly the dance steps taken by the people of Oju. To avoid undesirable lengthy write-up, I have broken the whole analysis into three parts that will come in the span of 40 days. Even though 2023 is far away, permutations and counter permutations are already at top gear especially at the social media polling unit. Only data owners understand who created the unit, I know for certain it is not a creation from INEC.
A lot of unprintable, uncultured and alien utterances has been used on our revered political leader Rt. Hon Samson Okwu for no justifiable reason. I will take time in the next edition to explore some of the comments made by some people and also subject them to the court of public opinion and the high court of morality and value of an Igede person. Oju people on the other hand feel that the seat of the House of representative for 2023 is their own and they have ultimate right to it. Some section feel it will be theirs on the platter and so have no need to engage our Obi brothers for a discussion at all.
My good people of Oju- let us stop the breakdance and change our dance steps as the lyric is different from the shaking of our bodies. Oju/Obi Federal constituency is not a traditional creation, but based on Local Governments of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The argument of many senior clans in Oju and hence the entitlement mentality is not only unfitting, but lame. Let us also consider the political arrangement on ground, if Obi people were allowed to take their 12 years that Oju people had and it is time for another round of arrangement, it will be justice and honoring if we allow Obi to take first in the fresh turn as we have equal right in the constituency. There is no standing resolution that Oju must take first. This will only be a powerful and relevant consideration, if it is a traditional issue where senior clans are considered in our culture. So if the people of Obi are demanding to take this time the first turn, they are not asking too much. For sake of emphasis and clarity in case some people are not aware, this constituency is not a cultural and traditional construct and every component making up the constituency are equal. This breakdance and right mentality should stop.
Funny enough, the Obi people are not jumping on that agenda for now, they are not insulting people about it, they have decency and are careful with their choice of utterances. But Oju people, una no try!!!. Our leader Rt. Hon Samson Okwu had at several fora called for synergy and cooperation among the elites and youths to attract development to Igede land, for now, that has been the preoccupation of his mind and it is seen in every of his move. He also had decried the satisfaction mentality of Igede people, as if the only thing we are capable of having is HOR. We in time past, had deputy Governor, deputy Speaker, Secretary to the State Government and Director General of State Parastatal and two Commissioners in key areas like Health and Education. But all his call for unity and cooperation falls on the duck’s back, because some people feel that pulling him down and rubbishing his good records is more a project than the general welfare of Igede nation and her position in the committee of other tribes.
For those that lived in the late 80s, a music legend RAS KIMONO said- STOP THE BREAKDANCE, that it should be RHUMBA STYLEE. I want to join him and tell Oju people to stop this breakdance, by 2023 when men will come out for real politics, it will not be this social media breakdance but it will be Rhumba style. That time, maybe, just maybe, most of us will be enrolled as INEC adhoc staff away from our voting units or maybe, just maybe, we will come later to force INEC- under duress-sssss-lol.
