In a build-up to party primary elections for various political offices, many qualified Igede indigenes came out with mouth-watering articles on social media platforms. Myekeemedia did an unedited collection of some articles found on Facebook in May 2022.
An elective position is a vacancy waiting to be filled by employees, with applicants jostling with CVs, which contain their personal information, work experience and objectives. Chief Peter Egbodo, who opts to represent Oju/Obi Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, has made public his widely acclaimed rich profile, and it is indeed one not to be glossed over in a hurry.
Despite the position of analysts that his profile already speaks volume of the stuff he is made of and what transformation he can initiate in the Constituency by reason of his track record of capacity, integrity and experience, he is not without creative blueprints. His agenda, therefore – otherwise manifesto, objectives – among others for the socioeconomic, political and cultural development of Igede are to:
1. Deploy his oratory prowess and public relation skills at the floor of the Assembly to attract Government’s attention to issues of concern to the Igede people for immediate action;
2. Sponsor and secure a bill for establishment of Federal College of Health Technology for training of nurses and other allied health professionals and other related bills and motions of national importance;
3. Lobby Government’s reconstruction of the deplorable Oju-Obi-Otukpo Federal Road amongst others, by moving a motion at the plenary and ensuring proper follow-up;
4. Persuade and assist financial institutions to establish a banking hall in Obi Local Government Area to assuage the stress of traveling distances for complex financial transactions;
5. Promote agricultural development in Igedeland by empowering farmers with hand tillers, planters, hand mowers etc and providing incentives, grants and loans through federal, international and non-governmental organisations;
6. Discourage child labour, rural-urban migration, drug abuse and cultism by initiating empowerment programmes for widows, the less privileged and the youth to build their capacity for responsibility and self-reliance;
7. Expand his annual Chief Peter Egbodo Scholarship Scheme (C-PESS) to provide scholarships and grants for indigent students in Igede across all levels of education;
8. Revitalise dead primary schools and healthcare centres by refurbishing dilapidated structures and donating new ones based on need;
9. Promote political synergy with other leaders at all levels of governance for the unity and development of Oju/Obi Federal Constituency;
10. Ensure the creation of economic opportunities to Igede entrepreneurs and non-Igede business owners resident in Oju and Obi Local Government Areas;
11. Promote peaceful co-existence among the Igede clans and ethnic groups that work and live in Igedeland as well as neighbours with a view to ensuring sustainable development in Igedeland;
12. Strengthen our traditional institution and cultural practices such as Igede Agba, by promoting same with the electronic media to attract global attention and tourist investment;
13. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders in Oju and Obi to discourage the politics of money and solidify the zoning culture for all elective positions in Igede for entrenched peace and unity; and
14. Work tirelessly with all the well-meaning Igede sons and daughters, the political elite, academicians, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and traditional and religious leaders to actualise the Igede Development Agenda.
These agenda among others would be the parameters with which Chief Egbodo shall be periodically assessed during his tenure upon being elected. And indeed, his wealth of experience, intellectual capacity, and power of lobby are indispensable for the actualization of the agenda FOR OUR COMMON GOOD.
