Barrister Ocha Ulegede instituted a suit at the Federal High Court Makurdi against INEC and others for the restoration of the denied Uwokwu State constituency. He appealed when the matter was not decided in his favour to Court of appeal sitting at Abuja and won in 2007; the decision of the Court was denied and disobeyed. In 2010, he instituted a technical matter of contempt against INEC and others.

On 9th March 2011, Professor Atahiru Jega, on behalf of INEC, formally wrote a letter to the Court through INEC’s counsel that UWOKWU STATE CONSTITUENCY IN BENUE STATE ASSEMBLY BE RESTORED. Consequently, the election to Uwokwu State constituency was conducted on 10th September 2011. Honourable Dr. Jairus Erube from Idelle clan was declared and returned as the election winner. Hon. Owuru Ire from Uwokwu and Hon. Okanga Okponya from Ainu represented the people of the Constituency subsequently. It is otherwise called Oju II State Constituency.

The constituency is composed of three clans; Ainu, Uwokwu and Idelle. Before the restoration in 2011, few people represented the constituency in the State Assembly for a short period, truncated either by military regime or change in republic before the final return to democracy in 1999. They are:Hon. Peter Oibe Eru from Uwokwu, Hon. Stephen Attah from Idelle and Jonah Okwoche from Ainu.
