ṀYẸKẸẸMEDIA: THE IGEDE PEOPLE

Benue State that was created 3rd February, 1976 from Benue-Plateau State is composed of the 23 Local Governments- Ado, Agatu, Apa, Buruku, Gboko, Guma, Gwer- East, Gwer-West, Katsina-Ala, Konshisha, Kwande, Logo, Makurdi, Obi, Ogbadibo, Oju, Okpokwu, Ohimini, Oturkpo, Tarka, Ukum, Ushongo, and Vandekiya.

These are the Local Governments Areas from Benue created along tribal lines in 1976;

TIV:(1) Makurdi (2) Gboko (3) Vandikya

Igala: (1) Ankpa (2) Ida (3) Dekina

Idoma:(1) Okpokwu (2) Otukpo

Igede: (1) Oju

As at 1991, Tiv three Local Governments gave birth to additional 11 plus their initial 3 making the total of 14 Local Governments.

IGALA struggled and opted out from Benue and became the mighty of their brand-new State known as Kogi. Igala alone has 9 solid Local Governments as we speak from their initial 3.

IDOMA rose from 2 local governments to 7 as we speak.

IGEDE Igede gave birth to additional 1 Local Government making the Local Governments 2 till today.

Igede is situated in Benue State in the North Central part of Nigeria. Igede land has boundaries with the Tiv people to the North and North East. Idoma people of Otukpo, Akpa, Ufia and Izigbang in the Northwest and West respectively. The area also shared common boundaries with Igbo of Ebonyi State, Yala and Ukele people of Cross River State to the South.

IGEDE IHYỌ́Ọ́!!!  In God we trust.
