ṀYẸKẸẸMEDIA: LET US KEEP OUR TRADITIONS ALIVE

PUBLICATION–037MM2023

The traditional respect structure in Igede is not outdated. It is still relevant and serve the need of the modern society. The traditional concept of respect for elders is not oppressive and should never be replaced with any alternative forms of relationship. You can go to court if you think otherwise. Just that they need to be elders indeed.

A POEM IN HONOUR OF DEAR ELDERS

Respect for elders, a value so dear

Ingrained in our cultures, year after year

Traditionally, we hold them high

For their wisdom, experience and life's reply

They are the jewels of our community

Our mentors, advisors and source of unity

Their stories passed down from generation to generation

A legacy of honor, a mark of distinction

Their wrinkled faces tell a thousand tales

A vast wealth of knowledge that never fails

Their counsel, a compass for the young

A guide to a life worth living and a song to be sung

The respect for elders, a noble act

Promotes harmony, peace and honorable pact

It binds us, connects us and gives us identity

A legacy that transcends time, space and humanity

Our elders have lived life so long

Through ups and downs, they stay strong

Their contribution to Igede society cannot be denied

For their achievements, we hold them with pride

So let us keep our traditions alive

And respect our elders like they never die

For in them rests the wisdom of the ages

A priceless inheritance, a legacy that engages.
