EKURWE: THE IGEDENESS IN ME

I am not an Igede person because I was born there.

I am not an Igede person because I can say ‘Myeeke’ and ‘Obe’.

I am not an Igede person because I have cultural attire.

I am not an Igede person because I could point to my family land.

I am not an Igede person because I can sing and dance to her cultural music.

I am not an Igede person because I am from the royal stock with ‘Ugbang abwo iye abwo iye’.

I am not an Igede person because I can recite ‘ego nya Igede’ and other eulogies.

I am an Igede person because I embody Igede moral values– honesty and integrity, love and neighbourliness and my blood pulses to the rhythm of peaceful coexistence and trouble-free Igede land.
