SUNDAY NIGHT WITH EKURWE

Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” (Acts 9:6 NIV)

When we are face to face with Christ, what will be our earnest request? For some, it will be good health, wealth, deliverance from affliction, solution to a nagging issue, dealing with our enemies, avenging our case and a lot of other needs. As good as these request may be, let us look at the response of the saints that walked before us in this faith path. Their response reveals the content of their heart and submission to the sovereign will of God who is all-knowing–Lord, what will you have me to do?

In Acts Chapter 9, we have the story of the life of Paul before his conversion. He was known as one going about persecuting Christians. But at salvation, just as every true believer is obligated to do, he surrendered his will to God instead of arguing against the gospel or searching for loopholes to avoid complete obedience. Paul saw the utter failure of his efforts. His self-reliance vanished and he turned to God, not making any request but listening to God to tell him what he must do. When we come face to face with Christ, we should allow Him to talk first and tell us what we should do for Him. He would not come to us only to hear what we have for Him to do, we should allow Him as our Lord and Saviour to tell us what He must have us do for Him.

Just as a child is curious to understand the world around them, so are new believers hungry to understand their Saviour. At salvation, we should surrender our will to the one glorious and loving Master who died for us. The proof of salvation is in a willing and eager heart to do the will of the God.
