SUNDAY NIGHT WITH EKURWE

Updated: Jun 28, 2022

They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. ‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace.” (Jeremiah 6:14 NIV) Thanks for following our series on real peace with God. The Prince of peace is given to us as a gift from God, and we should take responsibility to obey His commands and be part of the commonwealth of Zion. Let us look at a few indicators of real peace.

Any peace that superficially deals with sin is a false peace. Some people make the healing of their sinful wounds easy work. They look at some promises in the scriptures, claim them, and think they are healed. Some rely on the mercies of God without the willingness to stop that particular sin. It is not a mere look at the word of mercy and love in the scriptures that brings peace. The promise of scripture can only do good when it is mixed with faith.

Any peace that partially deals with sin is false. The sincere believer will not simply seek to be at peace with more troublesome sinful desires or sins that self classifies as more grievous in the sight of God. To seek to deal with sin that bothers us and not to deal with sins that trouble us less is to deal with sin partially. Any peace that seems to come from dealing with sin like this is false. We should display equal respect for all God’s commands. God’s peace is a humbling peace without compartments.

King David is an example of a person who does not try to rationalise and give reasonable reasons that will seem justifiable for sin. He displayed humility and honesty when Prophet Nathan called him out. Psalm 51:1-4 was a confession of David when Prophet Nathan came to him after he committed adultery with Bathsheba. “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.” (NIV)

The treasures store of heaven is loaded with all the needed arsenals to fight the good fight of faith and are only a prayer away. If we have received temporal and earthly things from God for our comfort, how much more shall we receive from Him spiritual things that bother on the welfare and salvation of our souls. The store is locked with a golden padlock, and the key to the store is obedience and trust. Do we want peace, real peace? Let Jesus come into our hearts. Do you have peace that Jesus Christ who lived in you gave, or is a peace that is self -manufactured or conferred on you by another person? Blessed are those at peace with God, for they shall be heirs of eternal life. May we desire this peace more than anything in Jesus’ name.
