SUNDAY NIGHT WITH EKURWE
3 July 2022
“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. (John 1:12-13 NIV)
Christianity is centred around one man–Jesus Christ. Jesus is not simply a generic moral teacher or wise man, but He is God-incarnate who died for sinners. He is the lamb of God that was sacrificed for the sin of disobedience of the humanity. The only reason the Holy God could call us His own is because of the sacrifice of Christ. This is why it is vital to understand who Jesus is and what He has done. He must be at the centre of our preaching, teaching and doctrinal viewpoints.
The doctrine of Christ at the centre of the Christian life and gospel is not a matter of guesswork or analysis but a solemn fact we must reckon with if we desire a genuine spiritual relationship with God. When we choose to put other things ephemeral, man-made philosophies and personal gain at the center, we mock the gift of God.
It must be understood rightly that Jesus is both truly God and truly man without mixture. What does this mean? First, the doctrine of Christ tells that God Himself has come to die and save humanity. God has become man to redeem fallen humanity. Furthermore, it reveals that Jesus is a perfect High Priest because as both God and man, He can intercede on our behalf.
What is at the centre of the Christian faith? Even if asked millions of times, it remains– the Lord Jesus Christ. Then we come to the most important question anyone can ask; “do I believe? Am I trusting in Jesus? Is He really at the centre of our Christian faith?” He must be at the centre and be the only focal point of our profession; anything short of that is an exercise in futility. May God help us ignore the murmur of self-will and lust of the flesh to put Christ at the centre of our faith and not any man no matter who they are and are able to do with the power of the Holy Ghost.
Keep a date with EKURWE next Sunday.
